LLADRÓ AND LEANDRO ERLICH UNVEIL THE CORAL CAR - THE REEFLINE SERIES
The first collaboration between artist Leandro Erlich and Lladró, The Coral Car – The ReefLine Series, is a limited edition of unique porcelain creations that explore the intersection of art, sustainability, and environmental conservation. These limited-edition sculptures in porcelain were unveiled in Miami Art Week, at an exclusive dinner celebration with the artist and hosted by The ReefLine, followed by the exhibition of the first two decorative versions at Art Basel, Coral Car – The ReefLine I (Algae) at Luciana Brito Gallery and Coral Car I – The ReefLine (Seafoam) at Continua Gallery.
The Coral Car – The ReefLine Series pays tribute to the preservation of coral reefs, essential for maintaining the balance of ocean ecosystems. This collaboration not only highlights the synergy between art and sustainability but also transforms Erlich’s concept of transmutation into tangible works of porcelain, embodying a shared commitment to balance, innovation, and environmental preservation. “Transmutation becomes an act of redemption, transforming the fruits of human progress into a means to heal and renew our natural world” explains Erlich about his artwork.
The Coral Car – The ReefLine Series is a continuation of a collaboration that began in 2019 with Order of Importance, an installation by Leandro Erlich curated by Ximena Caminos, Founder and Artistic Director of The ReefLine. Order of Importance was installed on the shore of Miami Beach, featuring cars and trucks sculpted in sand. An artistic statement in favor of ecosystem restoration, which will have its next chapter in the spring of 2025 with a new underwater installation: Concrete Coral.
The Coral Car – The ReefLine Series are masterpieces of handcrafted art. Both Coral Car – The ReefLine I (Algae) and Coral Car I – The ReefLine (Seafoam) feature over 1,000 hand-sculpted marine elements and exclusive glazes and finishes, designed to reflect the boundless beauty of our fragile marine ecosystems. Like all Lladró creations, the pieces from Art Editions are the result of a meticulous handcrafted process that takes place, from start to finish, at the brand’s headquarters in Valencia.
The Coral Car – The ReefLine Series is the first project of its kind for Lladró within the framework of the brand’s sustainability initiative, Conscious & Creative. Presented at Miami Art Week 2024, it establishes a relationship between the footprint and negative impact on the planet by human action, and the activities we can achieve to mitigate this imbalance.
