THE PORCELAIN REVOLUTION 70TH ANNIVERSARY

Last week saw the presentation of Lladró’s first  design book The Porcelain Revolution at the Casa Decor design fair in Madrid.

Launched to coincide with the brand’s 70th anniversary, the book has been designed by the Lladró Art team in collaboration with the Valencian studio Odosdesign. It features creations that have become benchmarks in contemporary design, signed by artists such as Jaime Hayon, Bodo Sperlein, Morita and Aleksandra Zeromska, among many others.

A compilation of Lladró’s most experimental proposals, The Porcelain Revolution is a result of seven decades dedicated to revolutionizing artisan creativity with porcelain. Carefully edited, it offers a journey through the brand’s most diverse creations, each the result of Lladró’s relentless pursuit of stretching the limits of this diverse material.

Collections like the iconic creation The Guest have a special place in the book. This sculpture, originally conceived by Jaime Hayon, reflects the fabulous world its creator and its different interpretations by internationally renowned artists including Paul Smith, Henn Kim, Ricardo Cavolo and Supakitch all dazzle and captivate wherever they appear.

The book also covers the dialogue between nature, design and craftsmanship through creations such as Awesome Insects and Plant the Future, and examples of how design can contribute to the revitalization of traditional artisan processes, such as the Re-Cyclos project initiated in collaboration with Bodo Sperlein.

The Porcelain Revolution was unveiled by Alicia García, the Director of Casa Décor, and among those who took part in the presentation were: Nieves Contreras, creative director of Lladró; Sergio Arribas, head of art at Lladró; Ana and Rosalía, creatives at Odosdesign; Enric Pastor, director of Manera magazine; and interior designer Carmen Baselga.

The event was followed by a cocktail party and DJ set held at the nearby Lladró Boutique at Calle Serrano 76. Guests were able to see the book first hand and learn all about the latest proposals in sculpture and lighting.

The Porcelain Revolution is now available from the Lladró online store and in Lladró boutiques worldwide. Casa Decor continues at Calle Serrano 92, Madrid until 28 May.
