LLADRÓ FAIR CELEBRATES 70TH ANNIVERSARY AT MITSUKOSHI NIHOMBASHI

Lladró celebrates its 70th anniversary coinciding with the 350th anniversary of Mitsukoshi Nihombashi, the first department store in Japan.

Held to commemorate Lladró’s 70th anniversary and coinciding with another special date for the first department store in Japan, founded in 1673, both brands held a commemorative event with Lladró new creations in a special zone of the shop coordinated by Naoto Fukasawa.

It was a special occasion to celebrate Mokuren design: the exquisitely crafted porcelain chandelier inspired by the white magnolia tree created in collaboration with Fukasawa. During a talk event, the renowned Japanese interior designer and writer revealed some behind-the-scenes stories about Mokuren: «It was challenging to develop the product under the COVID-19 pandemic. I thought Lladró might not be familiar with the Mokuren-flower, so I created a sample and sent it to them. Eventually, I was amazed by Lladró’s meticulous and flawless porcelain interpretation of Mokuren-flower.“ He expressed admiration for Lladró’s remarkable attention to detail in reproducing petals and technical expertise. After being unveiled to the world earlier this year at the Euroluce fair in Milan, Italy, Mokuren has been recognized as the winner in DNA Paris Design Awards and the Gold winner in the Grand Prix du Design.

The warm, inviting light it emits is filtered through the translucent porcelain of its white flowers, each made by hand, generating an enveloping illumination. As complex in its structure as it is poetic and combining nature with craftsmanship, the design is the epitome of the qualities found in both Fukasawa’s and Lladró’s work.

In addition to this impressive collaboration, the exhibition featured over 300 other pieces by Lladró, including brand new collections and some of its most iconic and innovative creations in categories such as Lighting, Heritage and New Concept. Among these were Jaime Hayon’s The Guest, the iconic piece featuring collaborations with some of the world’s most exciting and contemporary designers and artists, and Origami Dragon 70th anniversary Limited Edition.

Customers from all over Japan gathered to see this special celebration of both brands’ milestones.
